Conference
Stop the Wall in Palestine
Europe and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict
The past months’ startling, ominous events taking place in Lebanon,
Palestine and Israel have made our project even more urgent: A follow-up
conference to our June 2004 "Stop the Wall" Conference.
At this current conference, we intend to discuss the ways citizens
and social movements can and must be influential in moving European
policy in the direction of promoting peace and to ceasing its support
of the disastrous course taken by the Israeli government and its US-ally.
The German government’s acceptance and support of Israeli warfare
demonstrates that a well informed and mobilized public opinion - also
in Germany - is the key to reaching the necessary policy change
for the better.
We first of all want to focus on the blatant deterioration
of the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and the
construction of the
Wall, as the central project of the Israeli policy of occupation,
and the main source of discord. Secondly we will examine the European
and
German policy and its joint responsibility for the Israel Palestine
conflict.
We have invited outstanding guests from Palestine and Israel
to inform us on the situation. But essential is also to discuss with
them the
possibilities of effective intervention of the movements for peace
and solidarity. We want to discuss how to strengthen and activate
our campaigns and to build stronger international networks.
